Welcome to Kāinga Manaaki.

Kāinga Manaaki is part of our Te Iwiheke Pātata initiative, providing safe and affordable whare in Tūrangi. But it’s more than just housing—it’s about manaaki (supporting) whānau on their journey towards sustainable housing and homeownership.

Our Approach

Grounded in Te Whare Tapa Whā, we support whānau across all dimensions of wellbeing:

  • Taha wairua – spiritual
  • Taha tinana – physical
  • Taha whānau – family
  • Taha hinengaro – mental & emotional

Our wrap-around support model includes workshops and mentoring to help whānau succeed.

What We Offer

Through Kāinga Manaaki, whānau can:

  • Learn tenancy skills – rights, responsibilities, and property care
  • Build financial literacy – budgeting, debt management, and planning for homeownership
  • Strengthen wellbeing – resilience, health, and community connections
  • Set housing goals – clear pathways toward homeownership
  • Engage in community – creating networks and contributing to kaupapa

Our wrap-around support model includes workshops and mentoring to help whānau succeed.

About Kāinga Manaaki Homes

Through Kāinga Manaaki, whānau can:

Affordable rentals – subsidised by He Iwi Kāinga, below market rates.

Our Manaaki Kāinga homes are made possible through subsidies provided by He Iwi Kāinga, ensuring weekly rental fees are set at below market rates.

Our Manaaki Kāinga whare are not designed to be life-long homes instead our goal for these homes is to be able to support as many members as possible, including the generations to come. They are offered for a fixed time period with a maximum term.

What’s involved– become a tenant in our Manaaki Kāinga whare.

You’ll be required to engage in a range of programmes, training, and mentoring designed to prepare our members for future homeownership.

If you’re willing to commit to this exciting journey, we invite you to register for any future homes we may develop.

This is just the beginning of our efforts to create more pathways towards Manaaki Kāinga for our iwi.

What Makes Us Different

We focus on building financial capability so whānau can:

  • Reduce debt
  • Save for a first home deposit
  • Move towards long-term housing stability

Becoming a Tenant

To live in a Kāinga Manaaki whare, whānau commit to:

  • Engaging in programmes, training, and mentoring
  • Gaining practical skills for home maintenance
